Club América Favored to Win Liga MX Apertura 2025 Title
It’s going to be a highly competitive tussle to win the Liga MX Torneo Apertura, with eighteen teams battling it out in Mexico’s top professional division. The top six sides will go through to the quarter-finals, with the teams between seventh and tenth in a play-off to decide which club reaches the knockout stage.
It was Toluca who won the 2025 Clasura and they have been installed as the second favourites to win the Apertura. The Red Devils finished top of the regular standings by winning eleven and drawing four of their seventeen matches. They then navigated their way through to the final before defeating Club América.
It's the latter who are 4.00 favourites with the top betting sites to go one better this time around. They had the best goal difference in the Clasura when winning ten matches, with the Eagles then defeating Pachuca and Cruz Azul en route to the final. After being held to a goalless draw in Mexico City, they were then beaten 2-0 in the second leg in Toluca.
Monterrey are also among the market leaders and they recently participated in the 2025 Club World Cup. This experience might serve them well domestically, with the team holding UEFA Champions League finalists Inter Milan to a 1-1 draw during the group stage. Rayados then drew 0-0 with River Plate before a 4-0 success against Urawa Red Diamonds.
The fact that they only lost 2-1 to Borussia Dortmund in the last sixteen stage of the competition suggests that a strong challenge could be on the cards from Domenec Torrent’s side. It should also be noted that they drew 4-4 with Toluca on aggregate in the quarter final of the Clasura before going out because of a lower seed ranking.
The other Mexican side that participated in the Club World Cup were Pachuca. They failed to make as much of an impression in the tournament. They were beaten 2-1 by Red Bull Salzburg in their opener before a 3-1 reverse against Real Madrid. The Gophers then bowed out of the competition meekly by losing to Al-Hilal.
Perhaps Cruz Azul stand a better chance. This is a team who regularly seem to be at the business end of both the Apertura and the Clasura. There was actually a 1-0 semi-final win over América earlier this year before a 2-1 second leg defeat although they did hold a 2-0 aggregate lead in Mexico City and will hope to learn from that experience. Cruz Azul can be backed at 7.00 with the best football bookies.
Tigres UANL were the other losing semi-finalist on that occasion. Tigres were held to a 1-1 draw against Toluca before a comprehensive 3-0 defeat in the second leg. However, they are regarded as challengers this time around and did manage to overcome Nexaca in the quarter final when playing out a 2-2 aggregate draw.
